Nerding out about professionalism in the School of Business

Stephanie Schmitz wants students in the KU School of Business to have fun while getting serious about professionalism. As the assistant director of the EY Professionalism Program/Business Career Services, she helps students prepare for life after college while they are still in college.

“Our students are already amazing, hard-working and driven,” said Schmitz. “The Professionalism Program gives them the added advantage of being career-ready upon graduation.”

The program consists of six 1-hour courses designed to help students learn more about careers in business; identify their personal and professional interests; and take steps to help them land their dream job. Additionally, students can earn ePoints through a variety of outside-of-course activities promoting excellence in professionalism. Students receive points for each completed activity, charting their participation and those of their peers in an app and on an electronic leaderboard displayed in the atrium of Capitol Federal Hall, home of the KU School of Business.

“In addition to being really talented, our students are really competitive,” said Schmitz. “We only require 200 points, but students frequently earn 3 to 4 times that amount. It’s rewarding to see how eager students are to rise to the top!”
