Firm Will Make Gift to Support Outstanding Students
The University of Kansas School of Law announced that the Kansas City–based law firm Wagstaff & Cartmell has made a $1 million gift to its existing Wagstaff & Cartmell Scholarship Fund. The additional funding will continue to support outstanding law students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential and a commitment to advancing the practice of law.
The scholarship reflects the firm’s long-standing ties to the region and its dedication to fostering the next generation of legal talent. Recipients will be selected based on merit and financial need, with priority given to students who show an interest in litigation and trial advocacy.
“We are honored to invest in the future of KU Law students,” said Tom Cartmell, KU School of Law grad and partner at Wagstaff & Cartmell. “This scholarship will equip talented young lawyers with the tools they need to thrive. As a graduate of KU Law, I know the school has an excellent tradition of preparing its graduates for meaningful careers, and we are excited to help expand that vision. As the school looks ahead to new opportunities, including facilities that will match its excellence, we are proud to play a leading role in supporting that growth.”
The Wagstaff & Cartmell Scholarship is the latest example of the firm’s commitment to advancing legal education and strengthening the legal community. With this endowment, the firm aims to ensure that deserving students have access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.
“Wagstaff & Cartmell has earned a national reputation for excellence in trial and litigation work, and we are beyond grateful they are investing in our students in such a meaningful way,” said Stephen Mazza, dean of the KU School of Law. “This scholarship will open doors for generations of Jayhawk lawyers to get their degree and kicks off a bigger picture fundraising effort for new opportunities.”
